Well-designed interior greenery is not decoration. It is part of the architecture, it influences the atmosphere of the space and how people feel in it. At Soyshi restaurant, we designed a planting that creates privacy between guests, respects the restaurant's operations, and thanks to a thoughtful selection of plants, remains attractive even under daily stress.
When designing plants for a restaurant, we always have to stick to a few principles that we have put together:
- plants must form a screen, you want privacy, especially in a space like Soyshi, it is quite likely that you have come for a date or a discreet meeting
- they must not tickle the necks of visitors who are sitting on benches with plants behind their backs, they probably would not enjoy the meal very much
- it is ideal if they are mature plants or plants growing in a rosette, which do not crawl into personal space and outside the growing container, for some bistros they also do not create an opportunity for chipping or tearing, so you do not have to worry about plants that are constantly being plucked
- they are hardy species, they can handle an air-conditioned space, or less light, Soyshi does have skylights above each flowerbed, but even so the plants do not have as much as they would need, fortunately the designers also installed an LED strip here, which illuminates the plants in the evening and creates a lighting effect
In Soyshi, we also installed several mature plants in mobile solitary flower pots so that they could travel through the space as needed - to serve as a screen and partition, to make the lounge area cozier, and to add height to the concept of static flower beds.
We always find that maintenance is key when growing in similar spaces. If there is no functional maintenance that has experience in caring for large plantings, the effect of the plants will gradually decrease until it reaches the level of overgrown planting, when you have to constantly change and replant something. Invest in regular maintenance so that your investment will be valued - in the form of a thriving space that maintains its standard for the long term.
